There are nearly 400 different schools of modern sports Karate. They are all derivatives of the 3 major traditional Okinawan schools: Goju-ryu, Shorin-ryu and Uechi-ryu. This visual text explores how these 3 schools differ in technique and form. The subtleties in technique are viewed from various camera angles; application and variations are shown and explained.

As a result of Karate’s clandestine roots, it has always been transmitted as an oral tradition. For the most part, written records were strictly forbidden. As a result, these techniques and training methods have been a mystery even to  some of the most advanced Karate enthusiasts.

In this series Shorin-ryu Master Yoshimitsu Onaga, one of the last Karate master initiated in these ultimate techniques, reveals Ti for the first time, in an attempt to show and record this art before it vanishes.
