Shinjinbukan Shorin-ryu

Shorin-ryu and Okinawa Ti, a living tradition.

Dojo no Uta

The Shinjinbukan Dojo Song or "Shinjinbukan no Uta" was written by Onaga sensei to reflect the spirit and attitude he looks for in his deshi.

Onaga sensei wrote the first verse and the melody, while the second, third and fourth verses were written by Izumikawa Tomohiro, a student at the Shinjinbukan (san-dan)

The singing in this clip was done by Arakaki Shunichi a student of Onaga sensei (also a san-dan). It was recorded at the Shinjinbukan Hombu dojo Feb, 2003. (you'll hear some background noise, there were a few other things going on while we recorded)

The transcription and presentation was done by Daniel Kogan and it is intended to be an aide for people to learn the Dojo song.

Onaga sensei has requested that all the students learn the song, he feels it will give people some insight as to the spirit and dedication that is expected of the students of the Shinjinbukan.

The translation below is intended to help the reader understand the meaning, but is not intended as an English version of the song. The original lyrics are a mix of archaic Japanese poetic imagery, Okinawan Karate Vocabulary and grammatical structure to fit the melody.  Needless to say it doesn't translate easily. But this should at least help in understanding the spirit of the song.

Sweat and tears...Crystallize

 Verse 3

Nagare uke tsugu...Ryukyu no te wo

 Verse 4
